A LITTLE ORIENTATION / 1:19

before you go.

Start by deciding which arrival station is useful for your hotel. The fastest-looking train isn’t always the easiest door-to-door journey.

Hotel station → railway company → train service → ticket.

Welcome to Kansai Airport. Your first railway journey can be a calm beginning to a wonderful holiday. Start by choosing the station closest to your hotel.

Kansai Airport Station connects to the second floor of Terminal One and the Aeroplaza building. If you arrive at Terminal Two, take the airport shuttle to the station area first.

At the concourse, look for the railway names. J R West and Nankai have separate ticket gates. Choose the service for your destination before you go through.

Nankai serves Namba. J R offers the Kansai Airport Rapid and the Haruka limited express, with different routes and stops. Haruka serves Osaka, Shin Osaka and Kyoto. Match the service to your plan.

A limited express may need an extra ticket and a seat reservation. An ordinary I C card tap does not reserve a seat on Nankai's Rapi:t. Check the ticket requirements before boarding.

Then check the departure board, platform and destination. Keep your hotel address and final walking route handy. One clear connection is all you need to begin. Discover the railway guides at Fumi Tours dot com.

Kansai Airport: simplified orientation diagram, start here

SAME AREA. DIFFERENT GATES.

Know the name on the signs.

JR West and Nankai are different railways. Nankai serves Namba; JR has routes towards Tennoji, Osaka and Kyoto. Follow the company shown in your chosen route.

JR West

Kansai Airport Rapid and HARUKA

Useful for Tennoji and Osaka; HARUKA also serves Shin-Osaka and Kyoto. Compare the actual service and ticket.

Nankai

Airport Express and Rapi:t

Useful for Namba. Rapi:t is a reserved-seat limited express with an additional ticket; it is not the ordinary Airport Express.

ONE STEP AT A TIME

Your walk through the station.

  1. Find the station

From Terminal 1, follow railway signs to the second-floor walkway. The station sits between Terminal 1 and Aeroplaza. From Terminal 2, first take the free shuttle to the Terminal 1/Aeroplaza area.

  2. Choose JR or Nankai

Have your hotel’s nearest station on screen. Namba and Osaka/Umeda are different arrivals. Follow the company in your route rather than joining the first queue.

  3. Check the service before the gate

Match the train name and destination. A stored-value travel card can cover many ordinary services, but reserved express trains need the appropriate additional ticket. Ask at the counter if your booking is unclear.

PUT IT TOGETHER

Two useful journeys.

To a hotel in Namba

Compare Nankai Airport Express and Rapi:t, then check the walk from Nankai Namba to your hotel. Other stations called Namba can involve another walk.

To Kyoto or Shin-Osaka

Check HARUKA’s current stopping pattern and reserve the appropriate ticket. Save your destination’s station guide before boarding.

Before you leave

Know whether you are taking an ordinary airport service or a special service such as Rapi:t or HARUKA. Confirm the ticket before joining a queue. If you arrive at Terminal 2, include the transfer to the railway station.
