The idea behind the journey

Beppu, Osaka and Matsuyama, with an easy Haneda finish.

Begin in Kyushu with an airport-side recovery night, then move to Beppu for hot-spring days. Osaka adds city streets and possible Kyoto outings before a full week in Matsuyama. Domestic flights keep the long links manageable, and a last night at Haneda separates the final city stay from the flight home.

01

A first-night buffer

Keep the arrival simple before moving into Beppu the following day.

02

Two very different bath towns

Beppu’s hot-spring city and Matsuyama’s Dogo district offer different settings and traditions.

03

A week in Matsuyama

Time for castle views, trams, local meals and a return visit to Dogo.

A suggested programme

The days, one by one.

Day 1 is the first hotel night in Japan. An overnight international flight may leave the previous day. Adjust outings for opening days, weather and your own pace.

  1. Day 01

    Arrive at Oita Airport

Connect through Haneda and use the airport-area hotel to recover.

  2. Day 02

    Continue to Beppu

Make the road transfer and learn the hotel neighbourhood.

  3. Day 03

    A Beppu bathing day

Choose an appropriate bath and check its access rules.

  4. Day 04

    Explore Beppu

Plan one local area; sightseeing pools are not necessarily bathing facilities.

  5. Day 05

    A flexible Beppu day

Leave time for the hotel and another town outing.

  6. Day 06

    Fly to Osaka

Transfer back to OIT, fly to Itami and continue to Hommachi.

  7. Day 07

    Osaka city day

Use the subway for Namba, Shinsaibashi and a local evening.

  8. Day 08

    Optional Kyoto

Choose a compact area and a checked return route.

  9. Day 09

    Osaka or another outing

Keep a local day or investigate Himeji without squeezing both into one day.

  10. Day 10

    Fly to Matsuyama

Travel ITM–MYJ and settle into the city centre.

  11. Day 11

    Castle and central streets

Explore Matsuyama Castle and nearby city life.

  12. Day 12

    Dogo Onsen

Travel to the bathhouse district and choose the appropriate admission.

  13. Day 13

    An unhurried local day

Enjoy cafés, a tram ride and a short walk.

  14. Day 14

    Optional excursion

Check a regional outing, keeping a simple city alternative.

  15. Day 15

    A return visit

Go back to Dogo or another favourite place.

  16. Day 16

    Final Matsuyama day

Keep the evening easy before the next flight.

  17. Day 17

    Fly to Haneda

Complete the domestic flight and move to the airport hotel.

  18. Day 18

    Fly home

Use the terminal and time on the current airline booking.

The connections

How the pieces join up.

These are route notes, not confirmed departures. Recheck the complete connection, including the walk, bus or taxi at each end.

01

Sydney → Haneda → Oita

The original search combined international arrival with a domestic connection.

02

Oita Airport → Beppu → Oita Airport

Use an airport bus, taxi or arranged transfer. Oita Airport is outside both Beppu and Oita city.

03

Oita → Osaka Itami

The source selected an IBEX-operated sector within the ANA itinerary. Check the operating carrier and baggage details.

04

Itami → Matsuyama

Domestic flight, then local airport transport to the city.

05

Matsuyama → Haneda

Domestic flight followed by an airport-hotel night.

06

Haneda → Sydney

International return. An airport hotel near Terminal 3 does not establish the flight’s terminal.

Check the selected breakfast plan and current bath access.

03Osaka / Hommachi

APA Hotel & Resort Midosuji Hommachi Ekimae Tower

Public bathing here should not be described as a natural onsen; check the property’s current facilities.

04Matsuyama

Candeo Hotels Matsuyama Okaido

The selected week-long base for central Matsuyama, with its Skyspa bathing concept.

Do not assume Skyspa means natural hot-spring water. Confirm breakfast and room details.

05Haneda / Terminal 3

Villa Fontaine Grand Haneda Airport

A convenient airport-side final night, with the option to compare an onsen-inclusive room plan.

Bath entry and breakfast were not confirmed in the original quote. Verify the departure terminal.

Before choosing the dates

Make this journey your own.

  • Do not substitute Oita city for the airport-area arrival night; they are different locations.
  • The original early OIT–ITM flight makes the Beppu-to-airport transfer an important check.
  • Allow the whole Haneda terminal transfer if the hotel and departure use different terminals.
