Stay long enough
Six nights in Kobe and seven in Matsuyama leave time for laundry, repeat visits and a day with no plan.

Air & rail · 19 nights
Four places. Nineteen nights. Time to stay.
The idea behind the journey
Use the long domestic flights to change regions, then stop moving for a while. Sapporo begins the journey, Kobe provides a generous waterfront base, Matsuyama offers a full week of trams, castle views and Dogo outings, and Tokyo brings the route home. This is the collection’s strongest expression of fewer hotel changes and longer stays.
Follow the journey
Six nights in Kobe and seven in Matsuyama leave time for laundry, repeat visits and a day with no plan.
Consider an Arima day from Kobe and Dogo from Matsuyama, with entry and transport checked separately.
The original research prioritised location and value rather than a luxury label.
A suggested programme
Day 1 is the first hotel night in Japan. An overnight international flight may leave the previous day. Adjust outings for opening days, weather and your own pace.
Fly via Haneda to New Chitose; use airport rail or bus and settle in.
Explore Odori, central streets and a local food stop.
Take a railway outing to the canal town, or spend another day in Sapporo.
Fly CTS–ITM, then continue to Sannomiya.
Make a walking day of the harbour and nearby neighbourhoods.
Take a café break, do laundry or revisit a favourite street.
Check current transport and day-bath admission before setting off.
Choose Kitano, a museum or a food-focused afternoon.
Make it a full castle-town day, or keep the day in Kobe.
Return to Itami for the flight, then transfer into the city.
Choose a route up the castle hill that suits the weather and energy.
Use local transport to the bathhouse district; check bathing options and entry.
Have a slow morning and a short local outing.
Investigate a manageable regional outing after checking both directions.
Learn the tram network and spend time in a different neighbourhood.
Revisit Dogo or enjoy an unhurried final city day.
Travel MYJ–HND and continue to the Tokyo hotel.
Keep the day compact rather than crossing the entire city.
Leave room for a favourite restaurant or missed attraction.
Plan baggage storage and the airport transfer around the selected departure.
The connections
These are route notes, not confirmed departures. Recheck the complete connection, including the walk, bus or taxi at each end.
International arrival followed by a domestic connection; follow ANA’s arrival and baggage instructions.
Flight plus ground transfer. The hotel base is Kobe, not Osaka.
Allow for the airport transfer before the flight, not just its flying time.
Flight followed by city transport.
The final city-to-airport trip is part of the return day.

A comfortable final base for days in eastern Tokyo and onward city exploration.
Pool and health-club access may be seasonal or separately charged. Check the walk to the subway.
Before choosing the dates
Copied from the earlier planning research, reviewed for this edition in October 2026. These are historical quotes for one adult, not today’s prices, reserved inventory or a package offer.
Ground transport, most meals, day-bath entry and sightseeing were additional. The original August research overlaps a busy summer period, so compare the entire trip again for new dates.
