Read the film transcript

Fuji to the Seven Baths brings together mountain scenery, Kyoto’s cultural treasures and the gentle rhythm of a hot-spring town. This twelve-day, eleven-night journey begins with an easy overnight stay at Haneda, before three nights in Hakone’s Sengokuhara. When conditions allow, mountain transport leads towards Owakudani and Lake Ashi.

On a clear day, Mount Fuji may complete the view. There is time for art, a lakeside pause and a soothing soak, rather than a hurried circuit. Then the Shinkansen carries the journey to Kyoto for four nights.

Old lanes, market lunches and riverside evenings make a beautiful cultural chapter. A flexible day leaves room for Arashiyama or the tea streets of Uji. From Kyoto, a limited express train leads to two nights at Kinosaki Onsen.

Willow-lined canals and yukata strolls create a lovely change of pace. The town is known for seven historic bathhouses; choose those open during the stay, with evenings left for dinner in town. One final night in Rinku Town brings Osaka Bay and Kansai Airport close at hand.

Fumi can help explain the connections, local customs and choices along the way. Discover the complete journey at Fumi Tours dot com.

Day 1 is arrival in Japan. The final day is departure; overnight flights can arrive home the following morning.

A journey to make your own

Two hot-spring worlds. One ancient capital.

Begin in Fuji country, where mountain transport links volcanic slopes and Lake Ashi. Spend four nights in Kyoto, then slow down beside Kinosaki’s willow-lined canal. Arrive at Haneda and fly home from Kansai, with no return flight across Japan.

Time in Fuji country

Three Hakone nights give you two full days for the lake, volcanic scenery, museums and bathing. Fuji views depend on clear weather.

Four Kyoto nights

Temple lanes, market lunches and riverside evenings form a cultural chapter between the hot-spring stays.

Kinosaki at your own pace

Spend two nights in the town known for its seven bathhouses. Choose the baths open during your stay, leaving time for a dinner in town.

The connections, carefully explained

Travel with confidence.

Haneda → Hakone

Recommended:

  1. Keikyu from Haneda to Shinagawa.
  2. JR to Odawara.
  3. Hakone-area transport to Sengokuhara.

Historical estimate: ¥4,500–6,000 / US$32–46.

For this plan, use an Odawara-origin three-day Hakone Freepass on Days 2–4. The official adult reference is ¥6,400, checked October 2026. Buy Day 5’s local journey back to Odawara separately: three hotel nights span four calendar days. The Tokaido Shinkansen ticket is also separate.

Hakone sightseeing

The Hakone Freepass can be useful for the classic loop:

  • Hakone Tozan transport;
  • cable car;
  • ropeway;
  • Lake Ashi sightseeing cruise;
  • local buses.

Ropeway operation is weather- and volcanic-condition dependent.

Hakone / Odawara → Kyoto

  1. Local transport to Odawara.
  2. Reserved Tokaido Shinkansen to Kyoto.

Historical estimate: ¥15,500–16,500 / US$109–119.

Kyoto → Kinosaki

Direct Limited Express Kinosaki.

Historical estimate: ¥5,500–7,900 / US$39–56.

Kinosaki → Rinku

Recommended:

  1. Reserved Limited Express Konotori to Osaka. The Kinosaki service runs towards Kyoto, so check the train name and destination.
  2. Change to the JR Kansai-Airport Rapid.
  3. Use the airport-bound cars and alight at Rinku Town; some services split at Hineno. Haruka does not stop at Rinku Town.

Historical estimate: ¥7,500–9,000 / US$53–67.

Historical source itineraries

The supplied historical itinerary is the price evidence. Extended stays use derived nightly rates, not newly quoted multi-night bookings. This is a sample independent itinerary, not a Fumi package, booking offer, guaranteed price, airline-sponsored journey or hotel-partner endorsement.

Comfort, access and preparation

Make the plan work for you.

Suitability

This journey may not suit travellers who:

  • require guaranteed Mt Fuji visibility;
  • cannot manage steps and transfers around Hakone;
  • prefer a separate room each rather than two travellers sharing at Akaishiya;
  • need every meal included.

Important:

  • Mt Fuji views are weather-dependent.
  • Owakudani access can be restricted by gas levels or weather.
  • Reprice Akaishiya for one room per traveller if two-person sharing is unsuitable.
  • Forward the large suitcase from Kyoto to the Rinku hotel and take a small bag to Kinosaki.

Rooms, meals and local charges

Prices are US dollars per person unless stated otherwise. Where a room is shared, the example means two travellers sharing one private guest room. An own-room example means one room per traveller.

Choose the exact room, occupancy and meal plan before booking. Private toilets, shared bathing facilities and an ensuite bath or shower are different arrangements. Tell each inn about dietary requirements before committing to a meal plan.

Allow for local accommodation and bathing taxes unless the selected rate expressly includes them, plus optional luggage services, insurance and shopping. Fares, exchange rates and hotel prices vary with your dates.

Luggage and a comfortable pace

Travel with a bag you can manage at stairs and station changes. Confirm luggage-forwarding delivery days and the receiving hotel’s arrangements before dispatch. Keep passports, medicine and essentials with you, and carry enough clothes for the nights before your main bag arrives.

Put the journey together

Check the whole route before booking, starting with the international flights and the small inns. Match each arrival to the property’s check-in and dinner deadline. Then reserve trains where required and keep flexible outings for the weather and your energy.

Day 1 is arrival in Japan; the last numbered day is departure from Japan. An overnight flight home can arrive the following day.
