THE LITTLE THINGS THAT HELP

Before you step out.

Useful now, and easy to find again on your phone.

01

Hakata and Tenjin are different starting points

Hakata is the main JR and Shinkansen station. Tenjin has several separate subway and Nishitetsu stations. Match the full station name and line to your route, particularly when leaving for Dazaifu.

See the subway network ↗
02

Keep getting around simple

A prepaid transport card lets you tap in and out of local trains without buying a separate ticket each time. If you already use Suica or ICOCA, you can use it on Fukuoka’s subway too. Keep it topped up, or buy ordinary tickets. Choose a day pass only if it suits your planned journeys.

Subway tickets & travel cards ↗
03

Leave room for a proper meal

Try Hakata ramen, a yatai supper or a small restaurant that catches your eye. Ask Fumi about the dish and how to order, then confirm dietary needs with the staff before choosing.

Get the Fumi app ↗
04

Yatai are an evening possibility

Each stall chooses its own opening days and weather can change the plan. Carry cash, read the menu, confirm prices and keep large luggage elsewhere. An indoor restaurant is a good alternative whenever you want more space or certainty.

05

Give Dazaifu a day of its own

The shrine and Kyushu National Museum fit together naturally, but the museum has a separate calendar. Check it before travelling, allow for the train connection and keep time for lunch and the return trip.

Plan the Dazaifu journey ↗
06

Check your airport terminal

The subway station is connected to Fukuoka Airport’s domestic terminal. International-terminal travellers need the terminal connection or an appropriate bus. Include that extra journey before deciding how much sightseeing time you have.

A FEW GOOD QUESTIONS

Make yourself at home.

What is a good first day in Fukuoka?

Choose old Hakata if you would like temples, craft and a shrine, or Ohori Park and the art museum for a slower start. Keep the seaside and Dazaifu as separate outings. A relaxed meal is part of the day, not something to squeeze between stops.

Is Dazaifu part of the city walking route?

No. It is a separate excursion with a train or bus connection. Start from the station that suits your accommodation, check the museum’s opening day and leave time for the journey back.

Will the yatai be open every evening?

Not necessarily. Stalls have individual days off and may close in poor weather. Choose from what is open, check the menu and prices, and keep a nearby indoor restaurant as an alternative.

Which outing is best in the rain?

The art museum or the shopping outing offers more shelter, though connections are still outdoors. Check museum opening days. Avoid promising yourself a sunset view or an outdoor food stall when the weather is unsettled.

Do I need to book through Fumi?

No. This guide and planner are free, and FumiTours receives no booking commissions. Use the official links for tickets or book directly with the places you choose. You set the pace and make your own arrangements.

Can I keep my day on my phone?

Yes. Save places, add stops to My day, change their order and share the day link or save a day sheet. Saved choices stay in this browser. Open the Fumi app separately and tell her the places you would like to visit.
